A referral is required from your physician in order to book an appointment for an Ultrasound. The physician’s office will forward this to the Central Bookings Department and you will be notified in three to four working days of your appointment date and time.
Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to make an image of the organs, structure or blood flow inside the body and is considered to be safe. It is similar to sonar, which a ship uses to detect structures beneath the surface of the water.
All our Ultrasounds are performed by an A.R.D.M.S. registered medical sonographer.
Our hospital offers the following Ultrasound services:
Abdominal
Please allow a minimum of 45 minutes for your appointment. DO NOT eat or drink anything for six hours before your appointment. Diabetic patients should advise booking clerk at time of appointment and diagnostic staff on arrival at the department.
Endovaginal/Pelvic & Early Obstetrical
Please allow a minimum of one hour for your appointment. Finish four glasses of fluid one hour prior to your appointment time. DO NOT VOID UNTIL INTSTRUCTED.
Late Obstetrical ultrasound ( after 4th month )
Finish two glasses of fluid one hour prior to appointment.
Thyroid, Neck, Testicles, Extremities:
Please allow a minimum of 30 minutes for your appointment. No preparation is necessary.
G.I. Ultrasound
Finish two glasses of fluid one hour prior to your appointment. DO NOT VOID UNTIL INSTRUCTED.
